Toothpaste: Crest [Sep. 23rd, 2005|10:47 am]
Toothpaste Research Community

mortaine
What is the name of your toothpaste (please include brand)?

Crest, Baking Soda & Peroxide WHITENING with Tartar Protection (I normally don't get the whitening, but they were out of the non-whitening baking soda/peroxide/tartar). Fresh mint. It doesn't say on the package, but this is a hybrid gel/paste. I hate paste, but, again, they were out of the stuff I like.

What is the name of the company that produces it?

Procter & Gamble, of course.

What are the listed active and inactive ingredients?

Active: Sodium flouride .234% (.16% w/v flouride ion)
Inactive: glycerin, hydrated silica, water, propylene glycol, sodium bicarbonate, tetrassodium pyrophosphate, sorbitol, PEG-12, flavor, sodium hydroxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium saccharin, poloxamer 407, xanthan gum, cellulose gum, calcium peroxide, titanium dioxide, blue 1. [I sure am glad I don't swallow this stuff!]

Where do you buy it (name of store/URL of website/name of catalog company, please)?
Walgreen's.

How much do you pay for it?
About $3 for a small tube, about $5 or $6 for a large one, I think.

What size tube do you usually get?
A large tube when they have the stuff I like. Small tube if I'm out and they just have this stuff that isn't as good.

How often do you buy a new tube?
Every 2 months or so.

Which country do you live in?
USA

Do you reapply when brushing?
No.

Why do you pick that brand?
I'm a Crest kid.

Is there anything else you'd like to say about your toothpaste?
Yes. I am picky about toothpaste. My favorite is Crest tartar control Fresh Mint GEL with baking soda, peroxide optional (I notice there isn't actually any peroxide in the ingredients list...). The tartar control is essential, and the gel part is really important. I have been frustrated lately because Crest toothpaste packaging no longer lists whether it's a gel or paste.

Additionally, if you're buying your toothpaste for health, religious, dietary, and/or socially-conscious reasons, please say so. This is extremely important.
The only health reason is the tartar control for my dental health: I need tartar control and flouride to maintain my teeth. when I didn't use a tartar control toothpaste, I got more cavities.

Procter & Gamble, it does appear.

What are the listed active and inactive ingredients?
Active: Sodium flouride 0.243%
Inactive: sorbitol, water, hydrated sillica, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, PEG-6 glycerin, sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium pyrphosphate, flavor, sodium saccharin, cellulose gum, carnuba wax, carbomer 956, titanium dioxide, blue 1, yellow 5

about $3

What size tube do you usually get?
4.6 oz (130 g)

How often do you buy a new tube?
Every 3 to 4 months

Which country do you live in?
US

Do you reapply when brushing?
Not usually, unless my mouth feels particularly gross or I'm sick/have been sick.

Why do you pick that brand?
No particular reason. The Crest thing has carried over mostly from when I used whatever my parents bought, I think. I switch toothpastes every year or so, just to have something new in my mouth. :p I like minty things because they feel clean.

Is there anything else you'd like to say about your toothpaste?
I've yet to actually use this one, since it's a new tube and before I had plain peppermint. I'm kind of scared of the "extreme herbal mint" after reading your testing results in your journal. Also really scared of the pyrophosphates in the inactive ingredients. Anything with "pyro" cannot possibly be good.

• What is the name of your toothpaste (please include brand)?
Aquafresh Triple Protection Extreme Clean Whitening

• What is the name of the company that produces it?
GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, L.P.

• What are the listed active and inactive ingredients?
The only listed ingredient is the active one, namely Sodium Flouride (0.15% W/V of Flouride Iron) but I searched online for the inactive ingredients which are: Cocamidopropyl Betaine, D&C Red 30, Flavor, Glycerin, Hydrated Silica, PEG-8, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Saccharin, Sorbitol, Synthetic Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Water, Xanthan Gum.

• Where do you buy it (name of store/URL of website/name of catalog company, please)?
Target

• How much do you pay for it?
3-4 dollars

• What size tube do you usually get?
5.6 oz tube

• How often do you buy a new tube?
Apprx. every 4 months

• Which country do you live in?
USA

• Do you reapply when brushing?
No

• Why do you pick that brand?
The first time I bought a tube, it was on sale, and I saw no reason to switch. I don't have cavities so I am not picky about my toothpaste.

• Is there anything else you'd like to say about your toothpaste?
I don't know how to descibe the taste of this toothpaste, but I'm used to it now. It says "Mint Experience" on the tube, but when I first tried it, I was shocked at how...non minty it tasted. However, I had used Colgate up to that point and since I've started with the Aquafresh, I have thought Colgate to be very sugary tasting. (I left my toothpaste at home once when I visited my parents and had to use theirs.)

• What is the name of your toothpaste (please include brand)?
Nature's Gate, Herbal Creme de Mint, Natural Toothpaste (with Natural Mint Oils and baking soda)

• What is the name of the company that produces it?
Levlad Inc.

• What are the listed active and inactive ingredients?
Calcium Carbonate (Natural Calcium), Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (from Coconut Oil), Carrageenan (Seaweed), Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Calcium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Calcium Glycerophosphate (Natural Mineral), Carrot Root Extract, Natural Mint Flavor, Sea Salt.

• Where do you buy it (name of store/URL of website/name of catalog company, please)?
Bought this tube at Whole Foods, but I generally buy it at a local co-op or natural food store.

• How much do you pay for it?
It's $4.49 on the company's website. I'm not sure what Whole Foods charges though.

• What size tube do you usually get?
6 oz/170 g

• How often do you buy a new tube?
once a year, maybe?

• Which country do you live in?
U.S.

• Do you reapply when brushing?
Never. I figure that the brushing action is far more important than the toothpaste.

• Why do you pick that brand?
No flouride and natural ingredients. no funky aftertaste. And I think it tastes better than Tom's of Maine. possibly cheaper as well.

• Is there anything else you'd like to say about your toothpaste?
If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably just use baking soda. But, for convenience and fresh, natural taste this is a good choice.
